Adam Shankman talks “Hairspray 2″

Hairspray was a pretty substantial success in 2007, racking up $200 million worldwide, so sequel talk began soon afterwards - and now director Adam Shankman has told Entertainment Weekly a little about what he’s planning for the follow-up. “”We just got an outline and some ideas from John Waters, and now we’re going out to writers,” Shankman said. The story will follow Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) and her pals as they navigate the “next era of music,” the late ’60s. Waters of course directed the original Ricki Lake-starring film in 1989, which was turned into a Broadway (and West End) musical and then back into a film last year. “That period was superpolitical,” Shankman added, “it was a time of serious change.” He also said that Zac Efron’s link will become involved in the “British invasion” of the times. The film’s on track for a 2010 release.

Zac Efron called into New Zealand radio station ZM 91.0 on Friday, November 14th and talked with DJ Polly on gadgets, high school and actor Christopher Walken. Not only did Zac, 21, confess that he’s a gadget kind of guy, he also shared what the hardest thing about high school was for him was. He said, “Probably the academics. I was in all advanced classes, I took advanced placement English and history and that was pretty time consuming. I was very focused on that.” The High School Musical leading man also shared that he couldn’t believe that he was in a movie (Hairspray) with actor Christopher Walken. He said, “I’ve enjoyed most of his movies at this point and he’s just a huge talent. I remember I was doing a table read and I just couldn’t believe that I was sitting so close to this guy. Zac Efron has reportedly bought girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens a $50,000 housewarming gift for her new $3 million home. An insider tells Star magazine that the High School Musical star bought a Louis Vuitton steamer trunk for Hudgens because she “loves” the designer brand. “Vanessa loves Louis Vuitton, but she wouldn’t spend the money for it. To her, it is a piece of art,” says a source. Hudgens, 19, and Efron, 21, began dating in 2006 after meeting on the set of High School Musical. The couple recently premiered the third and final installment of the HSM series.
